Showcase Your Skylights with the Right Blinds and Shades

It would be hard to find a window that a Graber Design Expert couldn’t cover. And that includes skylights.

Skylights are a powerful design element. They bring lots of light into the room and create a sense of spaciousness. Many small or cramped rooms are brought to life by a skylight.

Three Window Treatments for Skylights

There are three primary ways that Graber Design Experts treat a skylight—cellular shades, pleated shades, and traditional blinds.

Pleated Shades

Graber Pleated Shades are similar to cellular shades except they are made with a single layer of fabric. But liners can be added to these shades to improve light control, privacy, and insulation against heat and cold.

Cellular Shades

Graber Cellular Shades are made with two layers of fabric that form honeycomb-shaped cells that trap air. This trapped air provides an insulating barrier against heat and cold. But cellular shades are more than just functional. With their neat, even folds and premium fabrics, they are attractive, elegant shades.

A cellular shade can be mounted on the inside or outside of the window casement of the skylight. Siderails guide the shade and keep it from sagging. The cordless shade can be raised and lowered by hand. But a better solution would be motorizing the shade so it can be raised and lowered at the touch of a button. Learn more about Graber’s motorization options, including smart home compatible systems that allow you to operate and program your shades from anywhere.

Traditional Blinds

You can also use traditional blinds on your skylight. The blinds are stretched tight using spring tension to keep them from sagging. The slats are adjusted with a pole with a hook that turns the ring tilt. It’s a simple and effective system.

One of the advantages of using blinds for your skylight is they are incredibly durable. A set of traditional blinds can stand up to moisture—which is sometimes a factor when you’re dealing with skylights.
